OPay Verification Process

OPay account verification has come with so many questions including “why does OPay ask for verification?“, “can I use my OPay Account without updating KYC?” and “how can I verify my OPay Account?“. All these OPay queries and more will be treated in this article.

But before we dive fully to the primary reason of this article, let’s talk more about OPay as a payment service. OPay is an E-payment mobile money wallet that offers banking services such as sending and receiving money, pay bills, airtime and data top-up and many more.

However, to get started with OPay, you’ll need to download the mobile app from Google play store or Apple app store for iPhone users. Next, register an account on the OPay app and proceed to verify your KYC.

The OPay account kyc verification is required to upgrade and increase transaction limit. The account is categorized into three (3) major part; Tier 1 Account, Tier 2 Account and Tier 3 which is the final verification.

Once your OPay Account is upgraded to Tier 3 Account, all the limit will be removed from your account. In this article, I’m going to show you the process of verifying OPay Account and answer some frequently asked questions about OPay verification.

How to OPay Account

To verify OPay Account, you have to have an account. And here’s how to open OPAY Account:

  • Download and install the OPAY mobile app from Google play store or iOS app store.
  • Launch the application and tap on “Register an Account”.
  • Fill in all the required details such as Full Names, BVN, Email Address and Phone Number.
  • Verify your Email Address and Phone Number
  • You’ll now have access to your account dashboard.

That’s just the simple ways to open an OPay Account. Once you’ve successfully created the payment account, you can now move to the verification process.

OPAY Verification: Things To Know.

An unverified OPay Account is Limited to some certain transactions such as daily transactions and monthly transactions. When you registered an OPay Account, you’ll need to complete your KYC verification to lift every limit on the account.

Normally, for unverified OPay user, you will have a daily transaction limit of N50,000 and a maximum available balance of N300,000.

However, the major requirements to verify your OPay Account are BVN, valid email address, working phone number, valid means of national identification and utility bill not more than three (3) months.

OPay Tier 1 Account

The Tier 1 Account has the capacity to take in only N300,000 in available balance, and user running this level of Account can only carry out N50,000 Transactions per day.

The OPay Tier 1 only has your bank verification number (BVN) and nothing more. However, to upgrade and increase your transaction limit, you’ll need to provide more personal information.

OPay Tier 2 Account

The Tier 2 Account users can carryout transactions of N200,000 on daily basis with maximum accumulated balance of N500,000.

Meanwhile, to upgrade your limit to Tier 2, OPay will required you to provide a valid ID card such as National Identity Number (NIN), National Identity Card, Voter’s Card, Driver’s License or International Passport.

If you upgraded your account to Tier 2, you’ll be able to receive money from abroad using WorldRemit.

Moreso, the name on document you want submit must match the name on your BVN and OPay Account. If name tally, you can contact the OPAY customer service for further assistant.

OPay Tier 3 Account

The OPay Tier 3 Account has daily transaction limit of N5,000,000 and unlimited accumulated balance in wallet. However, to upgrade to this level, you’ll need to submit a utility bill of not more than three (3) months.

Merchant Account

OPay Merchant Account has no limit and you can perform transaction of any amount on the account. But to get the OPay merchant account, you’ll need to provide your proof of wealth such as Employer’s acceptance letter e.t.c.

Requirements to Upgrade/Verify OPAY Account

Here are the requirements and documents to verify and upgrade your OPay Account via the three (3) level of account available on OPay app.

  1. Bank Verification Numbers (BVN)
  2. National Identification Card (NIN, National ID Card, International Passport, Voter’s Card and Driver’s License)
  3. Valid Utility Bill such as Electricity bill, waste management bill, house rent bill e.t.c.
  4. Proof of Wealth (if required)

If you’re able to provide all the listed documents, you’ll be able to upgrade your OPay Account to Tier 3.

How to Verify OPay Account

Follow the below step-by-steps instructions to verify your OPay Account:

  • Login to your OPay Account with your user ID and password
  • Tap on Me on your dashboard and tap on the Settings icon
  • Tap on Upgrade and you’ll be given three options to upgrade to. They are Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.
  • To upgrade to Tier 1, update your BVN
  • To upgrade to Tier 2, submit your National Means of Identification.
  • To upgrade to Tier 3, submit three months valid Utility Bill.
  • Next, take a selfie and type in your address to verify your proof of residential address.
  • Tap on Done to complete the OPay KYC verification process.

OPay will review your information and get back within 24 hours. Once your account is fully upgraded, you can perform any transaction on the payment app without limit.

Why does OPay ask for Verification?

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) requires all financial institutions in Nigeria to know their customer (Know-your-customer) because of security reasons and business purposes.

Can I use my OPay Account without Upgrading KYC?

Of course, you can use your OPay Account to carryout transactions even without updating your KYC. However, you’ll be limited and restricted to perform some certain transactions.
